It all started back in the 1990s and in a roundabout way contributes to the formation of the WeaveTech online discussion group www.weavetech.org, but it is a convoluted tale and maybe not all that interesting.

Based on an article by Ruth Blau published in Weaver's, Marg created a yarn calculation spreadsheet (see PDF) the flagship. Since then the workbook has grown and grown to include:

• A table of weaving yarns, their ypp, and suggested setts. Formulas for determining ypp when the count is known; and the Ashenhurst formula to calculate yarn diameter.

• A table of average sizes for various items weavers weave.

• Reed, knitting needles, and crochet hook tables.

• Acid dyes, instrucutions interspersed with formulas for calculations of dye and chemicals for immersion dyeing.

• Fiber Reactive dyes, same as acid dye sheet with different formulas, chemicals, and instructions.

• Conversions chart. For conversion of all sorts of measurements, e.g., pounds to kilos; inches to centimeters; Fahrenheit to centigrade.

The spreadsheet is in an Excel format (you pick the version) and is available in a number of other spreadsheet program formats.

You may receive it as an email attachment or on a CD.  The CD version also contains: weaving-related freeware and demos for various weaving design software programs.
