A computer is a dynamic tool when used for more than e-mail!
This user-friendly introduction requires rudimentary skills in both weaving and computers! Most of the workshop is spent exploring weaving design programs.
Weaving design programs are for all weavers, both beginning to advanced, for those with 4-shaft treadle looms through multishaft computer-assisted looms.
With computer design, whole areas of design we previously attempted with trepidation, if at all, is accomplished, if not with ease, at least with confidence.
Spreadsheet programs take the pain out of calculating such things as yarn requirements, project costs, and dye quantities. They can include mathematical formulas for determining yarn diameter, yards per pound, yards required on a spool, and appropriate setts. They are also effective for accumulating project data, indexing a library, or controlling yarn inventory.
Graphics programs are for design: hangtags, handouts, and publicity. They can help us visualize finished cloth and present designs and concepts to clients.
